You ask an AI a question about your data and instantly get the right answer. No export, no formula, no detours. That’s exactly what the SeaTable MCP Server makes possible. Welcome to a new era of working with data.

  • The SeaTable MCP Server connects AI assistants like Claude directly to your SeaTable data
  • You ask questions in natural language and the AI reads, writes and analyzes your data
  • No programming skills required, no switching between apps
  • Works with SeaTable Cloud and self-hosted installations
  • Your data stays protected: the AI only accesses the bases you authorize

Imagine you could talk to your database. No detours, no CSV export, no clicking through filters, no writing formulas. Just like this:

“Which customers haven’t generated any revenue this month?”

And the AI answers — not with a vague guess, but with the actual data from your SeaTable base. In a fraction of a second. Exactly the rows that match your criteria. With the columns you need.

This isn’t science fiction. It’s available right now, with the SeaTable MCP Server.

MCP stands for Model Context Protocol. It’s an open standard developed by Anthropic, the makers of the AI assistant Claude, and now supported by the entire AI industry. MCP solves a fundamental problem: AI models are impressively smart, but they live in their own world. They have no access to your data, your systems, your business processes. They can write brilliantly, but they can’t tell you which deal needs to close this week.

MCP changes that. Think of MCP as an intelligent translator that mediates between an AI and external data sources. The AI formulates an intent such as “find all overdue tasks”, MCP translates that into the appropriate query, fetches the results and returns them to the AI for evaluation. All in real time, all in the background. The AI doesn’t simply get access to everything — only to the data you explicitly authorize.

What makes it special: MCP is not a proprietary format from a single vendor. It’s an open standard already supported by dozens of AI applications today — and the list keeps growing. What you set up today will work with new AI assistants tomorrow.

Anyone wanting to use AI in their daily work knows the dilemma. You open Claude or ChatGPT, want to ask a question about your business data — and then the cumbersome back and forth begins. Export data from SeaTable, paste it as CSV into the chat, painstakingly explain to the AI what each column means, hope it understands the structure correctly. With every new question, the whole process starts over. With large datasets, it doesn’t work at all. And the AI can’t write anything back anyway.

The SeaTable MCP Server puts an end to that. It connects your AI assistant directly to your SeaTable bases — in both directions. The AI can read, search, filter and analyze your data. But on your instruction, it can also create new entries, update existing records, edit multiple rows at once or establish links between tables. It automatically recognizes the structure of your base, understands the column types and uses the correct data formats.

And the best part: you don’t need any technical expertise. You ask your questions in natural language — just as you would ask a colleague. The AI knows your table structure and which columns and tables exist. Of course, your questions need to match your base — even the best AI can’t find data that doesn’t exist. But it’s remarkably flexible: if you don’t quite get a table or column name right, the AI recognizes it and corrects it automatically. You don’t need to worry about exact spelling.

This isn’t just a nice improvement. This is the moment AI stops being a clever toy and becomes a real work tool.

Theory is one thing — but the SeaTable MCP Server really comes to life when you see how it feels in daily work. The following scenarios show how different teams can use the MCP Server. None of them requires technical knowledge. All you need is a question and a base containing the relevant data.

A sales manager wants to know where deals are currently stalling. Instead of clicking through filters and views, he simply asks:

Show me all open deals over 10,000 euros that haven’t had any contact in more than 30 days.

The AI searches the CRM base, filters by amount and last contact date and delivers a clear list including contact persons and details. This takes seconds instead of minutes. And when the sales manager then says: “Create a follow-up entry in the Activities table for each of these deals” — the AI does exactly that. In the right table, with the right links.

A project manager wants to know what’s stuck before the weekly meeting. She asks:

Which tasks are overdue? Group them by person responsible.

Instead of manually setting filters and rebuilding the view, she gets a structured overview immediately. And when she decides that Lisa’s not-yet-started tasks should be postponed to next week, a single sentence is enough and the AI changes the due dates directly in SeaTable.

Two weeks before a webinar, the marketing team wants to check registration numbers:

How many registrations do we have for the webinar on March 15? How many of them are existing customers?

The AI counts the entries, cross-references them with the customer list and delivers a precise breakdown. What used to take fifteen minutes with exports and VLOOKUP is done in ten seconds.

A buyer wants to order proactively before shortages occur:

Which items have fewer than 10 units in stock and were sold more than 20 times last month?

In a traditional table view, this query would require multiple filters, maybe even a formula. With the MCP Server, a single sentence is enough — and the critical items are identified instantly.

A CEO is preparing for a board meeting and needs the key figures quickly:

Give me a summary of our sales figures: revenue per month, number of new customers and average deal size.

The AI reads the raw data, calculates and summarizes — in exactly the format needed. No waiting for reports, no asking the controlling department.

The setup is straightforward and takes just a few minutes. You need three things:

  • a SeaTable account
  • an AI assistant that supports MCP (for example Claude Desktop, Cursor or Claude Code)
  • an API token for your SeaTable base

You create the API token directly in SeaTable. In doing so, you decide whether the AI can only read or also write — so you always retain full control.

Then you enter the URL of the hosted MCP Server (https://mcp.seatable.com) and your token in your AI assistant’s configuration — done. No installation, no server setup, no technical expertise required.

By the way: if you self-host SeaTable, you can use the MCP Server too. In that case, it runs locally or on your own infrastructure. All details can be found in the technical documentation and on GitHub .

When it comes to AI and data, trust is essential. We know that many organizations are rightly cautious about giving an AI access to business data. That’s why the SeaTable MCP Server was designed with security as a priority from the start.

The AI only accesses the base for which you created an API token — not other bases, not your account, not other users’ data. Via the token, you control precisely whether the AI can only read or also write. Additionally, your AI assistant asks for your confirmation before every change.

An important note on transparency: When the AI queries your data, the results are transmitted to the AI provider (for example Anthropic for Claude) so the language model can process them. This is technically unavoidable — the AI can only work with data it can see. However, the major AI providers contractually commit that data processed via their API is not used to train their models. Those who prefer maximum control can self-host SeaTable and combine the MCP Server with a local language model — so data never leaves their own infrastructure at any point.

SeaTable Cloud and the MCP Server itself run on servers in Germany. The MCP Server code is fully open source and available on GitHub — transparency is not a promise, but verifiable.

You might be wondering: can’t I just use ChatGPT and paste my data there? In theory yes, but the difference is enormous:

Manual approach (copy-paste) SeaTable MCP Server
Data access Paste screenshot or CSV Direct access to live data
Freshness Snapshot at time of export Always up to date
Modify data Not possible Yes, directly in SeaTable
Data volume Limited by chat window Thousands of rows searchable
Effort Re-export for every question Set up once, use always
Error-proneness High (wrong assignments) Low (structured access)

The key point: MCP is not a workaround or a hack. It’s an open standard supported by the entire AI industry. What you use with Claude today will work with other AI assistants tomorrow. You’re not investing in a dead end, but in a future-proof approach.

Do I need programming skills?

No. You ask questions in natural language. It’s just like asking a colleague a question. The AI automatically translates your questions into the right database queries.

Which AI assistants are supported?

The SeaTable MCP Server works with all applications that support the Model Context Protocol. These currently include Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code and many other MCP-capable clients. Since MCP is an open standard, the list of supported applications is constantly growing.

Can the AI delete my data?

Only if you explicitly allow it. Via the API token, you control whether the AI can only read or also write and delete. Additionally, the AI assistant asks for your confirmation before every change — nothing happens that you haven’t approved.

Does it work with large datasets?

Yes. The MCP Server works with targeted queries. The AI doesn’t load the entire database at once — it queries exactly the data relevant to your question. This works even with bases containing thousands of rows.

Do I need to phrase my questions exactly?

No. The AI understands natural language and is very forgiving. If you don’t get a table or column name exactly right, it corrects it automatically in most cases. However, your questions need to match your base content. The AI can only find data that actually exists.

What does the MCP Server cost?

The SeaTable MCP Server is free and open source. All you need is a SeaTable account and an AI assistant that supports MCP.

We’ve all seen over the past few years how impressive AI models have become. They can write texts, generate code, create images. But when it came to having them work with our own data, we kept hitting the same wall: the AI knows nothing about our business. It cannot interact directly with our data.

The SeaTable MCP Server tears down that wall. It connects the intelligence of modern AI models with your real business data. It ensures that AI models know exactly how to access our data and how to work with it. This isn’t just a new feature. This is a paradigm shift in how we work with data.

Try it out. Create an API token for one of your bases, connect your AI assistant and ask your first question. You’ll be surprised how natural it feels. And how quickly you’ll wonder why you ever did it any other way.
