If you opt for PRINCE2, you will receive a classic project management method based on the waterfall model. The method was developed by the British government for IT projects and stands for “Projects In Controlled Environments”.

5. Kanban #

At the center of this method is the so-called Kanban board with several columns that represent certain project management phases such as “To do”, “Doing” and “Done”. The Kanban cards with the tasks start in the “To do” column and move from there to the right up to “Done”. You can prioritize the task cards in order to influence the processing sequence.

6. Scrum #

Scrum is currently the most popular agile project management method. It is based on a long-term but flexible “product backlog”. Tasks are divided into “sprints”. In each of the sprints, you develop a completed intermediate product. As with Kanban, feedback meetings (“daily scrums”) also take place every day. Scrum also defines roles such as the “Product Owner” and the “Scrum Master”.

7. Milestone trend analysis (MTA) #

Milestone trend analysis can be used in both traditional and agile project management. Of all project management methods, MTA is particularly suitable for scheduling projects with high risks.

It monitors the temporal progress of a project in which predefined milestones must be completed by set deadlines. Will you reach the milestones far in advance or later than planned? Using a timeline or calendar, trends - too many unnecessary time buffers or deadline delays - can be identified at an early stage. This allows you to minimize the risk of deviating significantly from the schedule.

8. Lean Project Management #

  • Muda (waste) identifies processes that do not create value and bring no benefit.

  • Muri (overload) refers to the utilization and relief of team members and machines. There should be no bottlenecks that lead to high levels of wear and tear or sick leave due to overloading.

9. Work breakdown structure #
